ELG 3rd graders study U.S. politics and governance at Georgetown

Third year Economics, Leadership and Governance (ELG) students in Washington to take seminar "Politics and Governance in the United States".

The third year Economics, Leadership and Governance (ELG) students from the University of California (U.S.A.) went to Washington, D.C. for the School moved to Washington, D.C. to take the seminar "Politics and Governance in the United States organized by the Department of Government at Georgetown University.

Georgetown University' s Mortara Center for International Studies was the venue for experts and students to share key issues in American governance and politics. For example, Professor Eric Langenbacher introduced them to the country's politics, culture and Economics ; Hans Noel, delved with them into the impact of the recent U.S. elections; and Diana Owen showed them the importance of the role of the media in today's society and politics.

In addition, students were able to share the vision of professors from different Georgetown's Schools such as Lynn Ross, from McCourt School of Public Policy, who presented the process of public policy in the U.S.; or Abraham Newman, from Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, who discussed the role of government in the digital revolution.

Throughout the two weeks of seminar, the students visited some American institutions such as the laboratory of ideas Cato Institute, the department of State of the US Government, Capitol Hill or the Democratic National Committee. In addition, they were able to learn about the experience of different professionals, including Nuria Tolsá, an economist at the Inter-American Bank development (IDB); and Sharmila Raj, an official of the government agency USAid.

The students took advantage of their stay in the U.S. capital to visit the main monuments of the city, such as the Capitol Visitors Center; the well-known National Mall; and the Smithsonian Museum. They were also able to experience Memorial Day, coinciding with the date of their stay in Washington, with the visit national parade that takes place every year on the occasion of the holiday.
