Two graduates of the School of Medicine, runners-up of the award Sanitas spanish medical residency program 2020

The award recognizes the training and talent of young medical specialists Carlos Bravo Pérez and Rodrigo Sánchez Bayona.

Carlos Bravo Pérez and Rodrigo Sánchez Bayona, graduates in Medicine from the University of Navarra, have received the two runners-up prizes in the 24th edition of the award Sanitas spanish medical residency program 2020. This competition has recognized for more than two decades the training and the talent of young medical specialists. The first award went to Enrique Salmerón González, a specialist in plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery at the Hospital Universitario y Politécnico La Fe in Valencia. core topic On this occasion, the work of Spanish healthcare professionals, who this year have played a key role in managing the healthcare crisis caused by COVID-19, has also been highlighted.

Carlos Bravo Pérez is a specialist in hematology and hemotherapy at the José María Morales Meseguer University Hospital in Murcia and is currently in his second year of doctorate, under the degree scroll "New insights into the mechanisms of antithrombin deficiency". She achieved first place in the spanish medical residency program 2016 exam and has received several awards and recognitions thanks to her educational activity.

Rodrigo Sanchez, a specialist in medical oncology at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, received the grade cum laude for his thesis "Alcohol consumption, adiposity and physical activity as factors related to breast cancer in the project SUN". She obtained the issue 26 in the spanish medical residency program 2015 and the award National End of degree program in 2013/2014. She has participated in several research projects and has several awards throughout her degree program.

"Resident interns are essential in our healthcare system. Their work in this complex year has been even more important, which is why the Sanitas Awards spanish medical residency program on this occasion also wanted to recognize their magnificent work during these last few months. We are very proud of the quality of care offered in Spain, but even more so of the professional and human quality shown by the professionals every day," said Yolanda Erburu, CEO of Fundación Sanitas.

The jury, made up of representatives of the committee Nacional de Especialidades en Ciencias de la Salud, as well as the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Universities, chose the winners from among the 99 applications submitted this year, 19 more than in the previous edition.

A total of 34 medical specialties were submitted, compared to 11 in 2019, from 68 hospitals. In addition, on this occasion, there was representation from centers in 15 Autonomous Communities, showing that, year after year, the presence of these awards increases throughout the territory.
