Rafael Moneo gave the inaugural lecture for the 2010-2011 academic year at School of Architecture of the University of Navarra.

"Architecture must be understood in the globality of the environment in which it is produced". This was stated by the Navarrese architect Rafael Moneo during his visit at the University of Navarra, where he gave the inaugural lecture for the 2010-2011 academic year at the University of Navarra. School of Architecture.

In front of an audience of more than 600 people, Moneo stated the following: "There are not so many free-standing buildings. It is difficult for a building to find a radical solitude, since all of them, in the end, are part of a bequest, of everything that men have built throughout the history of Architecture. That is where I would like to see my work".

During the lecture, he presented the book Apuntes sobre 21 obras, a volume that explains the principles that have inspired and guided much of his work through a careful selection of works and unpublished texts that he himself has written especially for this publication.

The works that appear in the volume and about which he spoke during his speech are the following: Urumea Housing Building, San Sebastian; Bankinter Headquarters, Madrid; Logroño City Hall; National Museum of Roman Art, Merida; Previsión Española Headquarters, Seville; Atocha Station, Madrid; San Pablo Airport, Seville; L'Illa Diagonal Building, Barcelona; Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró, Palma de Mallorca; L'Auditori, conference room concert hall and music school, Barcelona; Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Madrid; Davis Museum, Wellesley College, Wellesley (Massachusetts); Kursaal, conference room concert hall and convention center, San Sebastian; Moderna Museet and Arkitekturmuseet, Stockholm; Murcia City Hall Extension; Museum of Fine Arts, Audrey Jones Beck Building, Houston (Texas); Cathedral of Our Lady of Los Angeles (California); file General y Real de Navarra, Pamplona; Gregorio Marañon Maternity Hospital, Madrid; LISE, Harvard University, Cambridge (Massachusetts); and Prado Museum Extension, Madrid.

Rafael Moneo, the only Spanish architect to have received the prestigious award Pritzker (1996), studied at the Madrid School of Architecture. He has taught at the schools of architecture in Madrid and Barcelona, as well as at the Master's Degree in design Arquitectónico at the University of Navarra. He has also been chairman of the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University from 1985 to 1990, where he currently holds the Chair Josep Lluís Sert.

The architect, who already taught another lecture at the University of Navarra in 2004, has just finished the project of the Center for Contemporary Art to be built soon at campus Pamplona of the academic center and will house the collection donated by Maria Josefa Huarte.
