This year marks the 8th centenary of the consecration of the Royal Collegiate Church of Roncesvalles (1220-2020). To commemorate the jubilee, the Chair of Heritage and Navarrese Art of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra has organized a lecture series around this monumental complex. Sponsored by the Government of Navarra and with the partnership of the collegiate church, the activity will be held next Saturday, September 26, throughout the morning, in Itzandegia (Roncesvalles).

The first session, "Adaptation and ingenuity: the architectural project of Santa María de Roncesvalles", will take place at 10:30 a.m. and will be given by Javier Martínez de Aguirre, from the Complutense University of Madrid. At 11:30 a.m., Clara Fernández-Ladreda, from the University of Navarra, will give the second lecture of the workshop "The Virgin Mother: Saint Mary of Roncesvalles and the derived images". At the end, there will be a guided visit .

As Ricardo Fernández Gracia, director of the Chair de Patrimonio y Arte Navarro, explains, "the monumental complex of Santa María de Roncesvalles constitutes a special example at European level, which reached its maximum splendor with the development of the Way of St. James. Among its constructions, the church, chosen by Sancho VII the Strong as a burial place, stands out. This ensemble and its patron saint, the image of Our Lady of Roncesvalles, evoke the relationship of the architecture and the image with the French Gothic of the 13th and 14th centuries".

The attendance is free until fill in the maximum capacity of 50 people. Those interested in reservation for attend should send an email to cpatrimonio@unav.es.
