Francisco Mangado, professor at School of Architecture, receives the award Berlin Art Award.

The Akademie der Künste of Berlin has awarded the professor from Navarra in the category of Architecture.

The Berlin Academy of Arts has awarded the professor of the University of Navarra, Francisco Mangado, the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, Francisco Mangado, the award Kunstpreis 2017 (award of Art) in the category of Architecture. The Berlin Academy of Arts, founded in 1696, recognizes the career of the architect from Navarra with this award.

In addition to this, five other prizes have been awarded in the categories of Visual Arts (Axel Anklam); Music (Elena Mendoza); Literature (Annet Gröschner); Performing Arts (Valery Tscheplanowa) and Film and Multimedia Art (Athina Rachel Tsangari). This year's Grober Kunstpreis Berlin goes to Turkish filmmaker Emin Alper director .

This award was established in 1948 at report of the February Revolution of 1848 by the Berlin Senate and has been officially awarded since 1971 by the Academy of Arts on behalf of the country. The submission award ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Academy Building on Pariser Platz in Berlin. 

International prestige

Francisco Mangado (Navarra, 1957) is graduate by the technical school of Architecture of the University of Navarra, where he has been a professor since 1982. In the field of teaching, he has been visiting professor at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor of Architecture at the School of Architecture of Yale University and L'École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, among others. In 2015, he was appointed coordinator of Bienales de Arquitectura de España. And in 2015, the CSCAE awarded the Fundación Arquitectura y Sociedad, which he founded in 2008.

He has received numerous prestigious national and international awards, such as the award International Architecture `Andrea Palladio', award FAD, Construmat, the award National Architecture Award, the award Copper, the Giancarlo Ius Gold Medal awarded by the UIA and the 'Chicago Athenaeum'. He has also been appointed as an international honorary member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

Some of his most relevant works are the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, the Auditorium in Teulada (Valencia), the Cultural Center and Church in Thiene (Italy), the Baluarte Auditorium in Pamplona, the place Pey Berland in Bordeaux, the Municipal Center for Exhibitions and Congresses in Avila, the Archaeological Museum in Vitoria, the Palencia Football Stadium and the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Zaragoza 2008.
