The researcher of the University of Navarra Ignacio Uría presented yesterday his book Church and Revolution in Cuba. The event, which took place at Central Building of the academic center, was attended by Yolanda Barcina, mayor of Pamplona; Fernando García de Cortázar, historian and Full Professor of the University of Deusto; and the author of the book.

Iglesia y revolución en Cuba is a novel research on the relations between temporal and ecclesiastical power on the island. The guiding thread is Enrique Pérez Serantes, the most important prelate of the Cuban Church in the 20th century, a man who denounced both Batista's dictatorship and the totalitarian turn of the revolution, and whose pastorals were personally analyzed by Eisenhower and Kennedy. award The current mediating role of the Catholic Church in the alleged process of opening of the regime adds value to this work, awarded with the III International Jovellanos de Historia 2010.

Ignacio Uría is graduate in Law and PhD in Contemporary History of America (2005) by the University of Navarra with a thesis on the birth of the Cuban Republic. He is a regular partner in different national and international media and belongs to the group of research Cuba XXI Project of Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he did a postdoctoral stay last academic year 2009-10. He is also currently director General Manager the Foundation business-University of Navarra.
