Nursing celebrates St. Elizabeth of Hungary Day
The Patron Saint's Day revolved around the world of alcohol and health promotion.
The School of Nursing celebrated last October 25 its Patroness: St. Elizabeth of Hungary. The workshop began with the celebration of the Holy Mass at the chapel of the Hexagon Building, followed by a roundtable at the auditorium, led by Professor Navidad Canga.
Also in attendance was Dr. Juan Carlos Luque (DGT), Deputy Director of the research Section of the DGT in Madrid, who spoke about the relationship between the consumption of alcohol and other substances and traffic accidents: "We must break the tendency of those who believe that an accident is the result of chance". He also spoke of the false myths surrounding alcohol, such as the belief that "the heavier you are, the less effect alcohol has, or that drinking while eating does not affect you", among others. He also warned of the high rate of alcohol consumption among young people between 15 and 25 years of age. He concluded his discussion paper stating that "the lack of prevention among young people is not due to a lack of information".
The table also included the testimony of a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, who explained how he went from the moment he realized he had a problem, to his rehabilitation: "Alcoholism is a chronic disease subject . I realized I had a problem the day after a binge and so I decided to join association. Alcohol is like a drug and we underestimate its effects," he said.
To conclude, Navidad Canga took the opportunity to present the new website classroom Saludable de la School de Enfermería, a center aimed at the entire University of Navarra to promote health among students and professionals throughout the campus.
Interactive activitiesAfter the roundtable, students and teachers attended various interactive activities, such as "Let's party", a recreation and participation in a leisure space - disco, with activities on stimulation. "Virtual reality circuit" through the use of virtual reality glasses recreated the visual and motor alterations after the consumption of alcohol and drugs. "Alcohol Breathalyzer Contest" to put to test the attendees' knowledge about alcohol.
The workshop concluded with a picnic lunch around Sciences Building and other activities at sports center.
