Next year, the School of Education and Psychology launches the Master's Degree University Degree in General Health Psychology (MPGS).

The dean of the School, Concepción Naval, explains some questions about the new degree scroll:

• This year the first graduating class of Degree in Psychology is graduating. Could this Master's Degree be a good option for them?

It is an excellent option for students interested in the field of health psychology, who have taken at least 90 credits in subjects related to clinical psychology during the Degree program.

• Why is it being launched now? Does it respond to a social demand?

On the one hand, as has been said, the first graduating class of Psychology culminates their programs of study and may be a natural continuation for them.

On the other hand, it responds to a social demand: last year hundreds of Psychology graduates in Spain could not access this Master's Degree, due to lack of places. There is a social demand for comprehensive patient care, which has led us to combine the scientific, humanistic, ethical and professional aspects in the training of the students , at Degree and Master's Degree.

• What are the contents to be taught at Master's Degree?

The subjects are structured in two blocks: scientific and professional foundations of Health Psychology, and assessment and intervention in Health Psychology.

• What academic staff will you be counting on?

It will be composed of professors and professional experts in clinical fields such as family therapy, neuropsychology, psycho-oncology, addictions or different psychological disorders.

• What methodologies will be used?

In order to make training as complete as possible, a variety of activities will be organized: lectures, specialized seminars, practical sessions, group and individual work. In addition, student body has the resources of Library Services and a complete collection of tests.

Cross-cutting strategies will be used: the case method, the search and analysis of scientific bibliography and training in intervention skills at the Simulation Center of the School.

• What employment opportunities offers this Master's Degree?

The degree scroll of General Sanitary Psychologist (Degree in Psychology with 90 ECTS credit of Clinical Psychology + Master's Degree University in General Sanitary Psychology) allows to develop the professional activity on own account or for others in the private sanitary field and to register the assistance units or Psychology consultations in the General Registry of Centers, Health Services and Establishments (for foreign students who want to work in Spain it will be mandatory to homologate their programs of study from Degree, accrediting the 90 ECTS credit of Clinical Psychology and having done the Master's Degree University Degree in General Health Psychology).

Among the assistance centers, institutions and companies in which the General Health Psychologist can carry out his professional activity are the following:

• Private sector health care facilities.

• Associations of patients with various pathologies.

• Psychosocial rehabilitation centres for chronically ill patients.

• Addiction treatment centres.

• partner-sanitary centers of special attention.

• Specialised child and youth centres.

• Residential units for the elderly.

• Neuropsychological rehabilitation units.

• Private sector fertility units: treatments for couples with childbearing difficulties.

The General Health Psychologist is responsible for conducting research, evaluations and psychological interventions on those aspects of the behavior and activity of people that influence the promotion and improvement of the general state of their health, provided that such activities do not require specialized attention by other health professionals.

The psychologists who develop their activity in centers, establishments and services of the National Health System or concerted with it, to make effective the sanitary benefits derived from the portfolio of common services of the same that correspond to these professionals, must be in possession of the official degree scroll of Psychologist Specialist in Clinical Psychology referred to in section 3 of Annex I of the Royal Decree 183/2008, of February 8, by which the specialties in Health Sciences are determined and classified and certain aspects of the system of training specialized health are developed.
