45 students from the Universidad del Istmo (Guatemala) and Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico) are participating in the 2012 edition of the Visitors Program of the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra. Created in 1990, at the initiative of Professor Joaquín Lorda, and after an eight-year interruption, it was resumed in 2008 under the direction of Inmaculada Jiménez.

On the occasion of the inauguration of the program, the director of the School, Mariano González Presencio, addressed a welcoming speech to the students. Likewise, the President of the Regional Government, Yolanda Barcina, received them at the Palace of Navarra.

This two-week a course focusing on a single topic , aimed at foreign visitors, is dedicated to contemporary architecture in northern Spain. In the first week, the theoretical sessions took place, including classes on creative language through the tool of drawing.

Discovering the keys to Latin American architecture
In the second week, which began today, Joaquín Lorda will accompany group participants on a journey through monumental Spain and the origin of Hispanic models of American architecture. "Through freehand drawing, students find the stylistic keys of Latin American architecture in their places of origin. For them it is an exceptional finding and a very useful field of reflection for their work as architects," explained Professor Jiménez.

On June 1, the students will visit the Citadel, the Cathedral and the walls of Pamplona, as well as the Oteiza Museum. They will also visit buildings in neighboring towns such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Zaha Hadid's bridge pavilion at the International Expo in Zaragoza, the Ysios Winery (by Santiago Calatrava) and the Kursaal building (by Rafael Moneo).

The pathway website covers the rest of Spain, including monumental cities of Castilla y León and Andalusia, with life drawing sessions in places such as the Alhambra in Granada, the Cathedral of Salamanca, the Aqueduct of Segovia and the Giralda in Seville.
