The project restoration of the Walls of Pamplona, in which several graduates of the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra and professors Leopoldo Gil Cornet and Joaquín Torres Ramo have participated, has received the award European Union of Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra awards in the category of 'Conservation'.

This is the most prestigious recognition in this field at European level, which also celebrates its 50th edition this year. submission The awards ceremony, to be held on June 1 at the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon, will be attended by the President of Europa Nostra, Plácido Domingo, the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Androulla Vassiliou, the President of the Republic of Portugal, Anibal Cavaco Silva, and the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Durao Barroso.

The award of Pamplona is one of the four prizes awarded to Spanish actions and has been selected from among 226 projects from 31 different countries. The jury was"impressed by the restoration of the fortifications of Pamplona, one of the best preserved enclaves and fortified citadels in Europe".

The Action Plan for the Fortifications of Pamplona is designed around three main axes. The first is aimed at carrying out specific actions for the conservation and restoration of the material assets. The second, to carry out functional improvements of the environment in parameters such as housing, endowments, public spaces and mobility-accessibility. And the third focuses on the revitalization of the walled enclosure itself in order to disseminate its historical and architectural values.

The implementation of the plan has been carried out through numerous projects, in which professionals and experts from different disciplines have participated.
