A total of 900 high school students will participate in the University of Navarra in three conference on Smoking Prevention organized by the association Spanish Against Cancer (AECC). The first meeting brought together 230 students from IES Cizur and 60 from IES Burlada. In the other two sessions, which will take place on November 4 and 25, students from IES place de la Cruz, Escolapios, Jesuitas, Ikastola San Fermín and Jesuitinas will participate.

The initiative, whose goal is to prevent the beginning of the consumption of this substance in adolescents, has the presence of Enrique Martinez, doctor of the Radiation Oncology Service of the Hospital de Navarra, who intervenes with a talk under the degree scroll "What do you get when you smoke", as well as the Navarre mountaineer Pitxi Eguillor.

Also collaborating are athletes from the San Antonio hockey team and the Itxako-Reyno de Navarra handball team; Álvaro Oquiñena, four-time hand pelota champion; and Aitziber Los Arcos, Taekwondo champion, who tell their experiences and raffle various sports equipment. The activities are completed with the performance of group Movimiento Bola and its representation "Tabaconólogos"; and the projection of some advertising spots of the AECC.

Smoking
in places of leisure and restoration.

According to the data of the last State survey on drug use among ESO students, 46.1% of students between 14 and 18 years of age state that they have used tobacco at some time in their lives, and 14.8% do so daily. Likewise, the age average of initiation is 13.1 years old and the proportion is higher in girls than in boys of all ages.

The figures show a significant decrease in tobacco consumption compared to previous years. For example, daily consumption has decreased significantly, from 21.5% to 14.8%. However, the AECC stresses that it is necessary to continue working to achieve a better future for new generations of children.

Similarly, they want to convey to the health authorities "the need to modify the current law on health measures against smoking, especially with regard to the ban on smoking in places of leisure and catering".

The conference on Smoking Prevention is held at partnership with School of Medicine of the University of Navarra, the Institute of Public Health of the Government of Navarra, Amaya Sports, Reyno de Navarra-San Antonio handball team, Navarra Football Federation and the contribution staff of Javier López Vallejo.
