Course opening
The opening of the 1980/81 academic year took place on October 6, presided over, for the first time, by the new President, Alfonso Nieto. The ceremony was held, as usual, at the classroom Magna of the Central Building, already restored after the ETA attack suffered on the morning of July 12.

Another ETA attack
Also at the opening of the 1981/82 academic year, it was necessary to recall another attack suffered by the University; this time, on June 24, 1981. At that time, four people were seriously injured and there was considerable material damage.

Institute for Family Sciences
In 1981 was born the high school of Sciences for the Family, based in the building "Los Nogales", dedicated to the research and teaching around marriage and family.
In 2017 it was attached to the School of Education and Psychology and in 2022 it was integrated into it. -
1982
Guipúzcoa Centre for Technical Studies and Research
In 1982, the Centro de programs of study e Investigaciones Técnicas de Guipúzcoa (CEIT) was created in San Sebastián, with José María Bastero as director general, and Manuel Fuentes as director scientific.

1984
Tribute to Dr. Eduardo Ortiz de Landázuri
In 1984, the University honored Dr. Eduardo Ortiz de Landázuri, one of the pioneers of the School of Medicine and the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, for his 25 years of service. The ceremony was presided over by the Duke and Duchess of Soria, Margarita de Borbón and her husband, Dr. Carlos Zurita.

1985
First Gold Medal of the University
In 1985, the University awarded Mr. Eduardo Ortiz de Landázuri the Gold Medal. It was collected by his widow, Laura Busca, at an academic ceremony held in his honor. He had died of cancer on May 20 of that same year at Clínica Universidad de Navarra.

1986
Silver Medals
On January 28 (St. Thomas Aquinas), 1986, the University awarded for the first time its Silver Medals, a recognition to professionals who complete 25 years of work. Sixty-eight people received it; among them, the first President Ismael Sánchez Bella.

1987
School of Economics
In 1987 the School of Economics and Business Administration was born. Professor Miguel Alfonso Martínez-Echevarría was named the first Dean of the School.

1988
research center in Applied Pharmacobiology
On September 9, 1988, the research center in Applied Pharmacobiology (CIFA), directed by Antonio Monge, was inaugurated. It was attended by about 200 researchers from national and international pharmaceutical companies, authorities and professors.

School Ecclesiastical Philosophy
In 1988 the Holy See erected the Ecclesiastical School at Philosophy. Its first Dean was Mariano Artigas.

New honorary doctorates
In 1989 the University awarded the Degree doctor 'honoris causa' to Christopher M. Sellars, Ángel Santos Ruiz, John H. McArthur, José Mª Lacarra y de Miguel (posthumously), Roger Etchegaray and Elizabeth Anscombe.

New building for Tecnun
In 1989, Tecnun - School of Engineering inaugurated its main building in Ibaeta, designed by Domingo Pellicer, Full Professor and Deputy Director, then, of the School of Architecture.
At the beginning of academic year 1989-1990, the School moved all its activities to campus in Ibaeta.
