Façade of Pamplona Cathedral
The planned sculptural decoration
Of the initial sculptural programme sketched out in Ventura Rodríguez's project , only the relief of the Assumption of the Virgin, above the entrance door, and the set of the cross adored by two angels in the upper pediment, all the work of the sculptor Julián de San Martín, were completed. The financial problems of the chapter prevented the images of St. Peter and St. Paul, destined to occupy the two niches in the atrium, and those of the four saints related to the diocese (Saturnino, Fermín, Honesto - he baptised St. Fermín - and Francisco Javier), which were to be placed on the pedestals of the balustrade of the second section, from being made.
