The University of Navarra has celebrated the investiture of 170 new PhDs, from 26 countries and 14 Schools, schools and institutes, who have defended their thesis since June 2014.
"We have made a firm commitment to be a Research University, a university dedicated to the search for truth through research in all branches of knowledge," said President, Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero. "To achieve this we are promoting, as is well known, research centers that we want to be leaders and under whose umbrella many of you have spent these years of doctorate".
With this investiture, according to the President, the new doctors acquire a new responsibility, because they become part of the academic staff which has as mission statement "to transmit knowledge to the young students who every year fill our university classrooms".
Our hope," he added, "is that from now on you will spread the 'seal of the University of Navarra', which is transmitted through a demanding way of working, manager and helpful, facing problems with courage; seeking the truth that will lead us to always put the common good before the good staff".
Being part of a universal history
Aurora Bernal, professor of School of Education and Psychology, godmother of the graduating class, pointed out that "this institutional act represents and builds the university being of each of the people who make up the University". "The work of research from the years of doctorate turns the doctoral students into doctors, into people who seek solutions by working with study".
For her part, Josepmaria Argemí, from the School of Medicine, spoke on behalf of the doctors and pointed out that "we are often asked what is the point of doing the thesis ", and that "harmonious progress towards the society of the future is impossible without the generation of a deep and true knowledge of reality at all levels". He also stressed that "the beauty of discovery and the awareness of being part of a universal history is what, beyond titles and honors, should fill us with a healthy pride on a day like today".
