Since last Friday, May 10, the six finalist projects of the contest that the Caritas headquarters in Pamplona proposed to the 4th year Architecture students of the University of Navarra can be seen at the Itaroa Shopping Center.

The four winning students were Carlota Esquíroz, Patricia Rey-Baltar, Marc Ribert and Pablo Elosua, who will receive scholarships to develop the final project during the next academic year, and will have the support of Professor José Antonio Sacristán and other professors of the school. School of ArchitectureThey will be supported by Professor José Antonio Sacristán and other professors of the school, so that the new building can be inaugurated in the Sanfermines of 2020.

The ideas are characterized by "avoiding the architectural ego in favor of preserving the intrinsic values of Caritas" and respecting the operation of the existing Tombola "because it has proven to be very efficient". The main modifications focus on improving the viability of the assembly, greater solar protection and the incorporation of new uses.

Regarding the assembly, prefabricated modules have been chosen to facilitate installation, the aesthetics of the set has been substantially modified "to respond to the current moment and the color red has been added, as a symbol of Caritas".

Acknowledgment

This project is a great opportunity for the students, who are grateful to Caritas in the first place, "thank you for taking the step of trusting us, young people who are in training, for giving us the opportunity to contribute to this project that, in one way or another, we all touch us closely; we are very excited to go ahead," said Marc Ribert.

"It is very valuable for us that the School supports this subject of projects, which are in line with the new Study program -theintegrated projects and the seminars of specialization -. They represent a challenge for us to face a project that has real conditions and a specific budget ; it escapes from the usual projects of the Schools of Architecture in which the idea takes precedence over the constructive development ", he adds.

This project is an example of service-learning, one of the challenges set out in Horizon 2020 of the University of Navarra: "a learning modality where the student not only works on the development of their own creative abilities, but where these have a real reflection", as explained Miguel A. Alonso del Val, director of the School, in the presentation of the project.
