Professors, researchers, technicians and staff of administration and service of the School of Sciences of the University of Navarra celebrated Professor's Day with a workshop in the natural park of Senda Viva.

The workshop began with a visit to the Bardenas Reales Natural Park, declared by UNESCO as reservation of the Biosphere. Professor Ricardo Ibáñez, from the Botany Section of department at Plant Biology, led the excursion through the Cortinas ravine, at the foot of Castildetierra, where they enjoyed the characteristic landscape of the Navarrese Bardenas, marked by erosion. The Geology teacher, Esther Lasheras, explained how the nature of the terrain - rich in soft materials such as clays and gypsum - the torrential nature of the rainfall, as well as the "cierzo" - the characteristic wind of the area - human intervention and the vegetation caused a significant reduction in the vegetation cover, all of which led to the characteristic erosion of the area.

There, Javier Elía, director of Maintenance Service and management of the animals and former student of the School of Sciences, explained the tasks of care and maintenance of the animals, their characteristics, etc. The attendees enjoyed a workshop among bears, lions, tigers, zebras, parrots, herons and deer, among other animals.

Precisely, the School of Sciences has signed a partnership agreement with Senda Vida that allows Biology students to carry out internships at the park's department of Environment, share the tasks of attention to the public and to schoolchildren, get actively involved in their educational programs, etc. In addition, the agreement supports the development of educational activities in the facilities of Senda Viva and in the Museum of Natural Sciences of the University of Navarra.
