Music, one more subject in the campus

30 students already studying at the University's new School of Modern Music

"Music is a gift, as long as you can enjoy it, it will give you very good moments in life". With these words Carlos Lázaro describes his passion for music. Carlos has promoted, together with the Service of Cultural Activities Office, a totally new project at the University of Navarra in the field of campus: the School of Modern Music, in which modern singing, electric bass and electric guitar classes are taught. A School with all the ingredients available to guarantee a good musical training during the university years, as well as to broaden cultural horizons.

Lázaro, former student of the University and professional musician, considers it vitally important to establish the musical training as one more space in the cultural range offered by the University. goal "In fact -he affirms- the School of Music was born with the aim of becoming in the long term deadline in one more subject in the offer professor". In his opinion, music is something fundamental for people, especially for young people during their time at the University. 

The Rock School Method

The promoters of this project hope that after the good reception it has had, next year they will be able to expand the issue number of places. "As it was the first time we did this, we have not offered many places and we have been forced to put a quality filter at least for this year to speed up the learning process", says Carlos, amazed at the demand of participants in this debut. goal However, he affirms that next year they hope to increase the number of places on issue so that all university students who want to can come and learn.

The School teaches electric guitar, electric bass and modern singing following the Rock School method, a method used in countries such as the United Kingdom or the United States. In these classes they learn all subject of musical techniques to apply in different ways, and "to be able to take advantage of the musical experience to the maximum in solitary or in group". The subject Spanish guitar is also offered, but the latter is not part of the Rock School training program , nor of its official exams. 

The University School is the first center that teaches this method in Navarra. According to Lázaro they will try to establish the style, instructions musical and methods used there so that it begins to have some resonance in Spain. Carlos Lázaro also hopes that next year new musical instruments can be added to the program at training, such as percussion, piano and even learning to play at group.

In addition, students may earn validate qualification credits for each course completed. The reward of attend to these learning courses culminates with the award of a diploma, recognized in music schools around the world.

Pedro Granda, a law student at the University of Navarra, decided to sign up for the singing tryouts. He was struck by this initiative because it was something completely new at the university. "It's the first time something like this has been done in the campus environment," he says. Pedro managed to pass the quality tests and was chosen, along with 29 other students, to take part in this course for the next five months.

As an aside, Granda is involved in the music world, he is a guitarist and a member of the rock band group . Six Miles Wide. He considers this learning school to be a "unique" opportunity, and takes it for granted that it will provide him with a lot of knowledge about music, techniques, singing theory and everything that encompasses this artistic facet. He also hopes to meet people who know and dominate the topic, professional people who will help him and can advise him in everything related to music and singing.
