José María Albareda, President
The 1960s began with the appointment of José María Albareda as President of the University. Albareda, who had been ordained a priest a year earlier, was a scientist and had promoted the creation of CSIC. He was President until his death in 1966.

University
In August 1960, the Estudi General of Navarre was erected as a university. The event was solemnly celebrated in a ceremony held on October 25, which was attended by numerous authorities and presided over by the Chancellor, Bishop Josemaría Escrivá.

First stone
After the solemn act in which the erection of the University was celebrated, the first stone was laid on the land ceded by the Provincial Council for the construction of the current campus of Pamplona.
That same day, the City Council presented the founder of the University with the degree scroll of Adopted Son of the City. -

Friends Association
The association of Friends of the University was born in 1960. Its goal is promote the partnership of the civil society for the development of the University.
Dr. Carlos Jiménez Díaz was its first president, until 1964. Then he was its Honorary President. -
1961
School of Engineering in San Sebastian
In 1961 Tecnun began to operate. The City Council of San Sebastian ceded a building on Urdaneta Street for the classrooms and laboratories of the newborn School of Engineering.

The Clinic is born
In 1962 the Clínica Universidad de Navarra was inaugurated. Its construction had been completed in 1961, the work of the architects Ignacio Araujo and Juan Lahuerta, and the building engineer Manuel Goñi. It had 27 beds.

Colegios Mayores in the campus
In 1963, the construction of the Goimendi was completed and the high school Mayor Goimendi. Until then, the students lived at place Conde Rodezno and in a chalet called Izarbide, the germ of those first senior schools. The Belagua, for boys, had also been built. high school Mayor Belagua, for boys.

ISSA
Also in 1963 ISSA was born in San Sebastian. He began his career in the palace Eva-Enea, at the top of the Cuesta de Aldapeta, with enviable views of the bay of La Concha, where he remained until 2013 when he moved to Pamplona.

First honorary doctorates
On November 28, 1964, the Chancellor, awarded for the first time the Degree doctor 'honoris causa'. Miguel Sancho Izquierdo and Juan Cabrera y Felipe, two great professors and friends of the University, received the honor.

I Assembly of the association de Amigos
On November 29, 1964, the First Assembly of the association of Friends was held. It took place in the Gayarre Theater and was attended by 4,000 Friends. It was presided over by the Chancellor and the new president of the association, José Castán Tobeñas.

School of Architecture
In the 1964/65 academic year, School of Architecture, directed by Ignacio Araujo, was born. It began with 127 students in classrooms in the basement of Central Building.

Expansion of IESE's headquarters
In 1965, the Pedralbes mansion, home of IESE Business School in Barcelona, which had become too small, was enlarged. The high school de programs of study Superiores de la business had been inaugurated on November 25, 1958. Antonio Valero was its first director.

Library Services
In 1966 the Library Services of Humanities, today Ismael Sánchez Bella Building, was inaugurated. Books from the first libraries, which had been scattered throughout the city, were moved there.

Francisco Ponz, President
Francisco Ponz took office as President in 1966, after the death of José María Albareda. The ceremony took place in the Hall of Degrees of Central Building, with attendance of the civil and ecclesiastical authorities of Pamplona and Navarra.

Shrine of Our Lady of Fair Love of the campus
On December 8, 1966, feast of the Immaculate Conception, the solemn inauguration and blessing of the Shrine of Our Lady of Fair Love of campus, dedicated to Saint Mary, Mother of Fair Love, was celebrated. The ceremony was officiated by the Archbishop of Pamplona, Monsignor Delgado Gómez.

Tecnun in Ibaeta
In 1967, Tecnun began construction of its own building in Ibaeta. The School, with Joaquín Casellas at the head, was growing at a good pace. Classes in the new building began in the 1968/69 academic year.

New honorary doctorates
On October 7, 1967, St. Josemaría, founder and first Chancellor of the University, presided over the investiture ceremony of six new honorary doctors: Braga da Cruz, Roche, Onclin, Roegele, Hower and Jiménez Diaz.

The "homily of campus"
On October 8, 1967, on the occasion of the Second Assembly of Friends of the University, a large Mass was celebrated on the esplanade of what is now Ismael Sánchez Bella Building. During the Mass, St. Josemaría gave what is known as the "homily of the campus".

Phase II of the Clinic
In 1968 the Clínica Universidad de Navarra grew with the second phase, designed by Ignacio Araujo, with seven floors. The number of beds increased from 27 to 200 and four new operating rooms were installed.

The Sario
agreement In 1969, after an agreement between the Diputación de Navarra and the University, the School of Industrial Technical Engineering "El Sario" began to operate. Its first director was Joaquín Casellas, director also from Tecnun. That first course had 326 students.
