Parish Church of Lesaka
Detail of the St. Martin ensemble
This rococo sculpture occupies a high niche in the altarpiece in the main place for being the patron saint of the church. Made by Luis Salvador Carmona, it is a group of great monumentality that represents the glorification of the holy bishop of Tours. The whole group rests on a base of clouds and seven little heads of angels of dynamic attitude. Saint Martin appears standing with his arms diagonally and his head tilted, covered by the mitre, looking towards the sky. He wears a silver-white alb broken into tiny folds, the lower edges unfurled above the clouds. He is covered with a heavy red pluvial cloak that is opened by the gesture of the arms. The expression of the face is very lively: the gaze is directed to the glory to where it rises, with the mouth half-open and the beards move diagonally by the force of the ascent. There are characteristic features such as wrinkles on the forehead, protruding cheekbones and the hollowing of the cheeks.
