Parish Church of Lesaka
Collateral altarpieces
The history of the collateral altarpieces as well as the main altarpiece begins on August 12, 1748, when Don Juan de Barreneche y Aguirre, a Navarrese who had become rich in the Indies, bequeathed the amount of one hundred thousand Guatemalan pesos to the town of Lesaka, his birthplace. The ecclesiastical chapter, Barreneche's executor, decided that the main altarpiece should be built, awarding the work to Tomás de Jáuregui, together with José de Zuaznabar and Manuel de Ariznavarrete. The appraisal of the work is dated in 1754 when the main altarpiece with two collaterals that did not appear in the contract was submission . The architecture of the two collateral altarpieces is very modern, so the moldings are very irregular and run to fist, which increases its price.
