Following the pandemic, the Schools and schools have resumed this year the international placements included in their curricula at Degree and Master's Degree.

It is increasingly necessary to train students to be able to function in a global environment. This is precisely one of the objectives of the curricular trips that many Degrees and master's programs include in their curricula. "These trips take place in cities that are core topic for understanding today's world (Brussels, Washington, Shanghai, Jerusalem, Rome or London) and that are home to prestigious universities and institutions. In many cases our students have already traveled with their families to many places. However, through this travel subject they learn to travel in a more academic way, attentive to history, culture, politics and politics. language culture, culture, politics, or the Economics of the country they are visiting," says Rosalía Baena, Vice President Students.

In addition, these trips create spaces for a more intense coexistence among the students themselves and between them and the professors. A "cultured" coexistence that, as Vice President emphasizes, is the result of numerous informal conversations and " defines the university experience".

Curricular trips complement the training that students receive at classroom. "They are a highly effective academic training medium. In a short space of time, students have a very intense learning experience. They are trips that are prepared in advance, and on which they have to reflect afterwards, so learning is marked by a series of activities that are, of course, assessable," explains Rosalía Baena.

María Gallegos, Art History graduate and delegate of the class, explains that the trip "has been very enriching, as we have had the opportunity to experience the Venice Biennale at first hand, getting to know the different proposals presented by the different countries. This is essential for our training as curators, as we have seen the concepts and theory studied during the course reflected. In addition, we have had the opportunity to meet different artists who, from their experience, have shown us other interesting aspects in this field".

Between 5 and 10 June, the students of Degree of Engineering in Industrial design and development Product Engineering who are taking the Global Industrial Design Engineering Program (GIDEP) travelled to Milan to attend to the Il Salone del Mobile and the Fuorisaloni. This is the most important design event held every year in the city, where hundreds of brands from all over subject of products present the latest news and trends in industrial design in various sectors, not only furniture, but also automotive, technology, etc.

"The Audi exhibition helped me to understand the breadth of details that must be taken into account when designing a product, and that the design of something as technical as a car, for example, is not only encapsulated in mechanical or electrical engineers, but in a whole team," explains Santiago Ayala, a 2nd year student. "But my favourite visit of the whole trip was the one we went to the studio of Achille Castiglioni, a well-known Italian designer. It was the first time I researched and understood so thoroughly the life of a designer. The importance of having a great studio, where ideas come from, and the importance of work as a team," he concludes.

Veronika Almasi is one of the students who took part in the international stay. "The classes we received fully completed the subjects we had studied in Spain. It helped us a lot to visit companies like Converse or USPS to get a very complete vision of how marketing works in the United States," she says.

In total, more than a hundred students from the Degree in Applied Management have carried out their international stays in the United States, Germany and France this year. Throughout the four years of degree program, students take two of them.

As they have done every year since 2003, the students of Master's Degree in Political and Corporate Communication went to Washington DC for 4 weeks, between the end of February and the beginning of March, to take part in a programme at the George Washington University (GWU). During this time, the students received classes at GWU's Graduate School of Political Management on strategy, public affairs and Grassroots , among other subjects. They combined this with visits to work to the communications teams of the White House, Capitol Hill, lobbies, think tanks, and institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The academic aspect was completed with 'living the American experience for a month'. That is, from attend to an NBA game; running along the banks of the Potomac, with Georgetown on one side and Arlington or Langley Cemetery on the other; or being able to stroll along the Reflecting Pool, between the Lincoln Memorial and the Obelisk.

"The stay in Washington D.C. was a unique and precious experience in every way. The classes were practical and we had to get involved in the handling of different strategy programmes. After lunch, we would return to class and the professor would set up a colloquium on international politics. Her analysis ranged from Latin America to the Middle East, passing through Europe," recalls Alicia de Haro, a student at Master's Degree this year. entrance "We got very involved so that the discussion went beyond the teaching hours and lasted until well into the night, with each one defending one political system or another, seeking to perfectly resolve the problem that had been dealt with that day".

From May 21 to June 2, 40 students from the 3rd year of Degree at Economics + Diploma in Leadership and Governance also participated in Washington in an international seminar on U.S. politics and governance.

Pilar Eugui is one of the students who participated in the Washington onsite . "For me, and I think I speak for the whole class, the international seminar in Washington has been, without a doubt, an incredible experience, becoming one of the best of the degree program. For two weeks we got to know the American culture from every angle. We have been able to understand its complex political realities thanks to the classes we were given in Georgetown, and, at the same time, we have been able to discover the city and its culture," he explains. "Moving the classes to Washington for two weeks has opened our minds and allowed us to experience everything we see in the classroom. But, above all, it has made us grow at the staff level, giving us the opportunity to strengthen our friendships with all our classmates and bringing the whole class together in a very special way," says Pilar.

Students from School in Economics have also travelled to London, Frankfurt, Brussels and New York. These stays are part of the plan of training of the diplomas and master's degrees, which for one or two weeks move the classes to cities and institutions of reference letter in each area.

The students of the 2nd and 4th year of the Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), from the School of Philosophy and Letters, also travelled to Washington to get to know first-hand some of the main political and economic scenarios in the country.

During their stay, from 24 May to 3 June, the students visited the most emblematic places and institutions in the city: the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Capitol, George Washington's birthplace, the Library Services of the congress or the Spanish Embassy in D.C., among others. They also held meetings with experts from different fields such as politics, Economics, diplomacy and think tanks.

Sol Caballero, a 2nd year student of Degree at Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), shares her experience: "The trip has been very enriching. Being there helped us to better understand the reality of the institutions we have heard so much about. In addition, there were many opportunities for dialogue and discussion. It has helped us to give a new meaning to everything we have seen so far on class. The visits to all these institutions, as well as the meetings with experts from so many different fields, have given us the opportunity to reflect and debate on issues such as the meaning of a nation, the construction of a modern identity, liberalism and its implications, financial institutions, etc. These days we have been able to see the three branches of Degree that we study - Philosophy, politics and Economics- applied to reality. What I liked most were the visits to think tanks and institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). It helped us to understand American politics and the workings of its financial institutions, how decisions are made and who actually makes them.

On their trip to the United States, the students were also able to visit New York. There they had a session on the work of the Permanent Delegation of Spain to the United Nations and attended a talk at the World Youth Alliance headquarters.

For 10 days (between 30 May and 8 June), students in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of Degree in Environmental Science travelled along part of the California coast, the Central Sacramento Valley, Sierra Nevada and Yosemite National Park. During their stay there, they were able to study the ecology of the different ecosystems visited, agriculture in the region and the management of its water resources, energy generation, mining and the Gold Rush, the history and evolution of human settlement in the region, and the management and conservation of natural spaces.

"I have been deeply affected by the fire-ravaged areas we have seen over the last few days. It is a critical moment for this territory, and being able to travel there and learn about it is an unparalleled opportunity. It's like having climate change right under your nose," explains Luis Górriz, student in 4th grade. Luis had previously travelled to Ecuador, another of the international destinations, along with Wales and Costa Rica, offered by the School Science programme. "I think that what these trips really bring is a different way of learning; more profound, staff and real. On the classroom, or even on internships at laboratory, you can learn a lot of skills, tools and technical knowledge. But I think what really marks you and makes you interested in something is the emotional. And that's what's good about these trips; you have the opportunity to interact with people who live and struggle in their daily lives for different environmental and social reasons", Luis assures.
