Alejandro Barranco Donderis wins the VII Final Project Competition degree program Chair Madera

The award of the contest is a scholarship to study the Master's Degree in Theory and design Architectural or Master's Degree in design and management Environmental of Buildings.

Alejandro Barranco, graduate by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, has been the winner of the VII Final Project Competition degree program Chair Madera. The architect presented to the competition his project graduate 'The recovery of the perception of the territory'.

The international competition , promoted by the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra and the Chair Madera, has counted with the registration of architects from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, France, Dominican Republic, Peru, Netherlands, Costa Rica, Colombia and Chile.

The jury, composed of José Manuel Cabrero, director of the Chair Madera; Luis Suárez, professor at School of Architecture of the University of Navarra; and Manuel Enríquez, partner of Barcos y Enríquez Arquitectos, highlighted that the winning project "is a complete new plant development , with an interesting intervention at all scales, from the initial analysis to the detail".

In addition, runner-up prizes were awarded to Daniel Gómez Magide, from the University of A Coruña, for the project 'Residential units for teachers at the University of La Coruña', and Daniel Aguado, from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, for the project 'Center for Youth Organizations'.

The submission awards ceremony took place at the framework of the first International Forum on Wood Construction in Spain, congress organized by fórum-holzbau with the partnership of the Chair Madera of the University of Navarra, which was held on May 23rd and 24th at the Baluarte Conference Center (Pamplona, Navarra).

The PFC Competition Chair Wood has as goal to reward the project End of degree program (PFC) that uses wood as an important component in its design and takes into account aspects of sustainability. The award consists of a scholarship which covers the cost of the enrollment in the Master's Degree at design and management Building Environmental (MDGAE) or Master's Degree in Architectural Theory and design (MtDA) that are taught at the University of Navarra.

The jury of the competition has taken into account the following criteria to evaluate the projects submitted: the use of wood as the main structural material; the creative and innovative use of wood in the design; the appropriate response to basic functional and architectural criteria; architectural coherence; and sustainability and environmental criteria.

The Master's Degree in design and management Building Environmental trains experts in sustainability at Building, both in design and in quantifying the efficiency of the measures adopted. It focuses on the management of energy (active and passive measures) and materials, environmental certification, life cycle analysis and new building systems.

For its part, the Master's Degree in Architectural Theory and design allows the student to achieve excellence in the design of architectural projects and deepen in the different currents of architectural thought, all guaranteed by a academic staff of high academic and professional level.
