The University of Navarra will inaugurate next Tuesday, November 19, the exhibition "Piedad de la Cierva: pioneer, visionary and scientist", a tribute to the life and work of the outstanding Spanish scientist.
The sample, which will remain open at the Library Services Central until March 14, 2025, will offer an overview of her career and contributions in fields such as X-rays, optical glass and refractory bricks, highlighting her role as a pioneer in scientific research at a time when women had little presence in academia.
The exhibition, organized by the Center of programs of study Josemaría Escrivá, in partnership with the Science Museum, the University Museum and the group Women for Science and Technology of the University of Navarra, will recreate the environment of research in which De la Cierva worked, using materials and objects from the mid-twentieth century.
The sample will invite visitors to explore the bequest of a woman who broke barriers in Spanish science: from her first steps in programs of study of X-rays with the Spanish scientist Julio Palacios and her programs of study in Copenhagen under the direction of the award Nobel Niels Bohr, to her achievements in the research of optical glass and refractory brick for the Spanish Navy.
