The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities awards 5.9 million euros to 36 University projects research
Among others, the call Generation of the knowledge 2023, of the State Agency of research, includes funding for 9 projects promoted by the Cima and for other 7 of the School of Sciences and the BIOMA Institute.

The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities has granted 5.9 million euros to 36 projects led by researchers from the University of Navarra, corresponding to the call for proposals knowledge Generation 2023, from the State Agency research (AEI). It is worth highlighting the 2.7 million euros of funding for 9 projects that will be promoted from the Cima and 1.1 million euros, which will go to 7 projects of researchers from the School of Sciences and the BIOMA Institute.
The call Generation of knowledge 2023, whose resolution final was recently published, has as goal to finance projects aimed both at fostering the generation and significant advancement of scientific knowledge and research of proven quality, as well as advancing towards the search for solutions to the challenges of society.
The resolution highlights the research multidisciplinary The resolution highlights the work being carried out at the centers and Schools of the University of Navarra, the Clinic, Cima and IESE. The 36 projects cover different areas ranging from history, physical sciences, engineering, sustainability and the environment, finance and accounting, and, in the biomedical field, research against cancer, obesity prevention and diabetes treatment. In total, 20 projects will be carried out at different Schools and centers of the University, in addition to nine at IESE, five at IESE and two at IESE Business School. Cima5 at IESE and 2 at the Clinic.
The Vice President of research and Sustainability of the University of Navarra, Paloma Grau, has highlighted the recognition that this funding represents for the research work of the university. "These projects reflect the ability of our institution to address current challenges from a approach multidisciplinary , combining scientific excellence and a commitment to society. In areas such as health, sustainability, science, technology Humanities or technology, we remain committed to a global impactresearch that drives progress and social welfare," he said.
Innovative projects at the service of society
The Cima has obtained more than 2.7 million euros to finance nine research projects, which include, among others, the research of immunotherapy against cancer, Parkinson's disease, genomic regulation in oncological diseases or applications of artificial intelligence in biomedicine. Two other research projects on regenerative medicine and cell therapy for myelodysplastic syndromes will be developed under the auspices of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra . Each has funding of 200,000 euros.
The School of Sciences of the University will face seven projects. Three of them are led by researchers from the BIOMA Institute: Aurora Monge and Ana Sanchez Ostiz, also professors of the BIOMA Institute, will study the application of transparent photovoltaic glasses in the School of Architecturewill study the application of transparent photovoltaic glass in the Building for its contribution to decarbonization, electrification and self-consumption; Johann Martínez-Lüscher, professor of the School of Sciences, will study the adaptation of crops to the impact of the main climatic factors and the reduction of natural resources; and David Elustondo and Yasser Morera will develop their research on cyanobacteria and their effect on Spanish reservoirs.
In addition, the research center in Nutrition (CIN) of the School Pharmacy and Nutrition has obtained a total funding of 425,000 euros to work on two other projects related to the treatment of diabetes and the prevention of obesity.
The School of Philosophy and Letters will study the production and perception of speech in noisy environments, a project that will be developed from the laboratory of Speech. The study on chronic heart failure will be carried out by the School of Nursing; the quality of streaming platforms will be the focus of the project of research led by professors from the School of Communication and the research on bovine brucellosis will be analyzed by researchers from the School of Medicine. Tecnun-Escuela de Ingeniería will carry out a research on noise amplifiers and wireless communications; and School of Architecture will analyze the contribution of architecture to the history of Spanish design .
In addition, the Ministry has awarded four grants to Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra. On the one hand, three projects will be carried out in the field of Economics: on the impact of environmental policies on the sustainable practices of households, distributive justice and another on theoretical and empirical developments for forecasting in fields such as the environment, Economics, tourism, climatology or poverty. The fourth project consists of analyzing, from a historical perspective, how the memories of the Templars and Hospitallers have been fixed and transferred in the Crown of Aragon and Navarre. IESE Business School will carry out five research projects on accounting, shared reality and work, finance and sustainability, and evaluation of assets.
