The President of the University, María Iraburu, completes her team with the appointment of four vice-rectors.

Pablo Sánchez-Ostiz, Paloma Grau, Secundino Fernández and Rosalía Baena take up new positions in the Office of the Executive Council

The President of the University of Navarra, María Iraburu, has appointed four new Vice Presidents. Pablo Sánchez-Ostiz, Vice President of Academic Organisation until now, becomes Vice President of academic staff; Paloma Grau, deputy director of academic staff in the School of Engineering, is the new vice-rector for Research and Sustainability; Secundino Fernández, Dean of Medicine until now, occupies the position of Vice President of Academic Organisation; and Rosalía Baena, professor of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, that of vice-rector for Students.

The former Office of the Vice President of Students, which assumes the competences of the Vice-Rector's Office of International Office, has changed its name to adopt the most common name in universities today. The Vice-Rector's Office for Research has added the term Sustainability to reflect the importance of this area in research activity in the context of Strategy 2025.

With this restructuring,Iciar Astiasarán, who occupied the position de Vice President de research; Pilar Lostao, until now Vice President de International Office; and Tomás Gómez-Acebo, Vice President de Alumnos, leave the Office of the Executive Council team. Professors Astiasarán, Lostao and Gómez-Acebo continue with their teaching and research tasks at their respective Schools.

Pablo Sánchez-Ostiz, Vice President de academic staff

Pablo Sánchez-Ostiz Gutiérrez (Pamplona) is Full Professor of Criminal Law. graduate and holds a PhD in Law and Philosophy from the University of Navarra. He extended his programs of study of research in Munich, Erlangen-Nuremberg and Freiburg, among other destinations. scholarship recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He was Senior Associate Professor at Pompeu Fabra University (1994-2003). His main lines of research focus on the concept of imputation in law and the principles of Criminal Law. He has been Associate Dean (2004-05) and Dean (2005-13) of the School of Law. Since June 2016 he has held the position of Vice President of Office of Academic Affairs.

Paloma Grau, Vice President de research y Sostenibilidad

Paloma Grau Gumbau (Benifaio, Valencia) is full professor at department of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences of the School of Engineering and collaborating researcher for the Ceit. Deputy director of academic staff at the School since 2016. She holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and a PhD from the University of Navarra in the Industrial Engineering programme. Her line of research focuses on environmental engineering, specifically in the development of new solutions and technologies for water management and treatment based on mathematical modelling. She has directed and participated in national and international research projects, has been a member of different working committees within the IWA (International Water Association) and has carried out research stays in universities in Belgium and Canada. She is married and mother of 3 daughters.

Secundino Fernández, Vice President for Academic Organisation

Secundino Fernández González (Astorga, León) is Senior Associate Professor and consultant doctor of Otorhinolaryngology of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra. graduate . He holds a PhD in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Navarra and a PADE from IESE. He has done research, among other centers, at Oxford University and the Harvard Macy Institute. Associate Dean of Alumni and Office of Academic Affairs of the School of Medicine (2006-14), has been its Dean since 2014. He directs the laboratory of Medical Engineering at School. His lines of research focus on laryngeal diseases, voice disorders and the design of equipment for the diagnosis of these pathologies. He is a member of the Royal National Academy of Medicine. He is married and father of 4 children.

Rosalía Baena, Vice President of Students

Rosalía Baena Molina (Puente Genil, Córdoba) is a lecturer in English Philology. She holds a PhD from the University of Salamanca. She has carried out research stays at the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia (Vancouver), Hofstra University (New York) and Boston College. Her research interests include questions of cultural identity in contemporary narrative in English language , as well as the emotional and ethical impact of literature.

At the University of Navarra she has been director of the committee of Humanities, director of the department of Philology and dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences from 2012 to 2020. She is married and mother of 4 children.
