Nuria Esandi, who carries out the doctorate between the School of Nursing of the University of Navarra and the School of Nursing and Midwifery of the University of Sheffield, has made a research stay in the School of Nursing of the University of São Paulo, considered the best Latin American university. Her goal has been to deepen the knowledge of Family Nursing within its group de Estudos em Enfermeria e Família (GEENF), a specific research team with extensive experience in the development and dissemination of knowledge in this field, and the promotion of the internship of advanced nursing with the family.

Under the tutelage of Dr. Margareth Angelo, manager of group researcher and one of the main authorities in Family Nursing in Latin America, Esandi has been able to "exchange knowledge and share results and experiences of the doctoral thesis ". At the same time, the researcher points out that it has allowed her "to gather significant information from other cultures and contexts that could enrich the findings of my study and to get to know the work and the methods of research developed by GEENF".

Helping families to care for their dependents

Nuria Esandi went to Brazil to get to know her internship nursing, a country where "the family, as a unit of care, has become an important focus, expanding into contexts and specialties such as gerontology and community care," says the researcher. The knowledge acquired in São Paulo will allow her to advance in the conclusion of her doctoral thesis , a qualitative study that aims to help families caring for their relatives suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Specifically, her work is focused on exploring the family experience of living with this degenerative disease and identifying the main family processes that take place in the early stages of care.

The future doctor has received the Santander Research Mobility Award, a award of mobility aimed at young researchers to promote partnership between institutions of the network Santander Universities, which includes the University of Navarra, the University of Sheffield and the University of São Paulo.
