Antonio Viana, new Dean of the School de Canon Law

Antonio Viana Tomé, professor of Ecclesiastical Organization, will be the new Dean of the School of Canon Law of the University of Navarra. He replaces Jorge Miras, who occupied the position since 2006 and to whom the President has thanked for his years of dedication to the board board, especially during the last six years as Dean, for his determined promotion of teaching and research tasks. The appointment will be effective as of September 1, 2012.

Born in Vigo in 1957, Antonio Viana has lived in Pamplona since 1982 and in 1984 he was ordained to the priesthood by Blessed John Paul II in Rome. He holds a doctorate in Canon Law and in Civil Law from the University of Navarra and in 1992 he received a scholarship from the Deutscher Akademischer Austaususchdienst to extend programs of study at the University of BambergGermany.

In addition to teaching at subject Ecclesiastical Organization, he has held various positions at the School of Canon Law of the University of Navarra and since 2006 was Associate Dean of this center. Likewise, for almost twenty years he has directed the journal Ius canonicum, a publication specializing in the area of Canon Law and the Ecclesiastical Law of the State.

He is the author of five books, among which graduate Organization of Government in the Church (3rd edition of 2010) stands out for its diffusion. He is also a member of the association Spanish Association of Canonistsof which he has been vice-president, and to the committee Directive of the association International for the Promotion of the Study of the Canon Law.
