Linkage and normativity, topic of an international ICS workshop
Speakers from universities in the UK, Mexico and the USA participated in the meeting .

Binding and normativity have been the focus of an international workshop organized by project 'Emotional culture and identity' of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra. It has been funded by the Ministry of Economics and Competitiveness of the Government of Spain, in the framework of the subproject 'Bonds, emotions and rationality internship' '.
In addition to experts from the University, the following international speakers participated: Thomas Khurana, from the University of Essex (United Kingdom), gave the discussion paper 'The Life of Form'; Vicente de Haro, from the Universidad Panamericana (Mexico), gave the lecture 'Duties to Oneself and other Ways of being bound in Fichte's Sittenlehre'; and Steven Crowell, from Rice University (USA), focused on 'Commitment: What is Self-Binding, and How is it Possible? The organizers have emphasized that there are many ways to be linked: "We are linked to recognize the truth and to follow laws. We are linked to others and to the world". The workshop questioned how to link these bonds and where their normative character lies. The meeting has sought to explore these issues from a historical perspective, addressing some of the contributions to a philosophical conversation.
