A professor of the University of Navarra obtains a scholarship Humboldt from research in Germany.

José Torres, professor of department of Philology Classical at the University of Navarra, will "leave" his students in March 2001 to enjoy in Germany the scholarship Humboldt of research that has been granted to him.

Professor Torres, who holds a doctorate in Greek literature, will remain in Germany until February 2002, where he will work with Professor Martin Hose (University of Munich) on the hymn genre: "I will study to what extent the narrative hymns of subject by writers such as Homer or Callimachus form an independent literary genre. I will further analyze their narrative characteristics to test my hypothesis." He also explains that "the Homeric texts are better known than those of Callimachus and represent an important document to know Greek mythology".

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation awards some 400 scholarships annually from research for non-Germans, which are considered one of the three largest in the world (along with the Fullbright and Marie Curie scholarships). In addition, they can be apply for for any subject from discipline.

requirements Professor Torres explains some of the essential requirements for access to this scholarship: "It is essential to draw up a detailed plan for work , prove experience as researcher, be a doctor and, of course, know German".
