The German Grand Master Henrik Teske, absolute champion of the I International Solidarity Chess Tournament in favor of research in Alzheimer's disease.

The event organized by the University's CIMA brought together more than 230 participants on July 2 and 3.

The German Grandmaster Henrik Teske has result the absolute champion of the I International Solidarity Chess Tournament that has been held this weekend in Pamplona. The event has been organized by the research center Applied Medical (CIMA ) of the University of Navarra, in partnership with the association of relatives of Alzheimer patients of Navarra (AFAN), the Spanish Chess Federation, the Obra Social "la Caixa" and the Caja Navarra Foundation. It was held on July 2 and 3 at the sports center of the University of Navarra.

Among the awardees also highlighted Diego Casimiro (Canary Islands), winner of the Honorary Trophy; the Navarrese Ángel Silvestre and Íñigo Elía; first veteran and best player in category B, respectively; the Serbian Slobodan Kovacevic and the German Henrik Teske, first veteran and best player in category A, respectively. In turn, the Spanish Chess Federation has awarded the champions by age six prizes consisting of an invitation to the Spanish Championship 2017.

More than 230 participants have been given quotation in this unique tornoe that, with the slogan "financial aid a tu report, dale jaque mate alzhéimer", has sought to raise funds for the research of this disease. According to Mariano de Pablos, manager of project and director of the tournament, "this initiative has result been the most important solidarity tournament organized in Europe and all for a good cause: the research of such a devastating disease for patients and families as Alzheimer's". The more than two hundred participants and fans were of different nationalities and came from 22 Spanish provinces. Their ages ranged from 6 to 73 years old.

This initiative has received the award Solidarity of two leading companies in our Community, such as Volkswagen Navarra and Zabala Innovation Consulting.
