The President has intervened in the presentation in Madrid of Institute for Culture and Society, which was attended by about 300 people.
"At the University of Navarra we want to be at the frontier of science and go one step further to generate knowledge that is useful for people". These were the words of President, Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero, during the presentation in Madrid, Spain, which took place on October 30. According to him, the University "aspires to be all-embracing and balanced, and to advance in all fields that are important for society". Thus, he stressed that after the advances that have been made in the biomedical, technological and business fields in recent years, the ICS seeks to fill in the research commitment in the field of Humanities.
"The goal of this high school is to analyze from a Christian perspective the great problems that affect contemporary man. And it does so with a high quality research that has repercussions in international journals with the most demanding standards," he recalled.
Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero said that this development that the University has experienced over six decades is due to three reasons: the commitment, team spirit and enthusiasm of its professionals; the magnanimity, hope and optimism that its founder, St. Josemaría, instilled from the beginning; and the generosity of friends, which makes possible the implementation of projects such as the ICS.
For his part, Jaime García del Barrio, director general manager of high school, highlighted the efforts made by the center to retain Spanish talent and attract foreign talent: "We have incorporated researchers from the world's leading universities. This obliges us to maintain very high quality standards. To guarantee this, we carry out very demanding annual evaluations".

During the presentation a discussion moderated by journalist Fran García Cabello, president of Alumni 's territorial board in Madrid, was held, with the participation of Full Professor of Economics Luis Ravina, director of the Navarra Center for International Development (NCID); Professor Montserrat Herrero, principal investigator of the project 'Religion and Civil Society'and Jokin de Irala, Full Professor of Medicine, researcher principal investigator of the ' '. project 'Education of affectivity and human sexuality'..
Luis Ravina explained that extreme poverty affects millions of people. "The problem is not the scarcity of resources. It is possible to carry out a reallocation that improves the status in the world", he stressed. With regard to the work carried out by the NCID team, he specified that the center studies the way in which phenomena such as migration or the transmission of knowledge contribute to the development of peoples.
For his part, Jokin de Irala commented that the goal of his project is "to contribute to improve the Education on the beauty of human sexuality", for which they are preparing material educational adapted to different school courses. "The authentic sexual Education is the Education for love," he said.
Montserrat Herrero has indicated that 'Religion and Civil Society' tries to reinterpret the thesis of secularization: "Religion is not something of the past or contrary to progress. Contrary to popular belief, atheism is not only not widespread in Europe, but in some countries there has even been an increase in religious internship ".
