BBVA and the University strengthen their alliance by promoting training in Generative AI
The program is part of a agreement of partnership to train bank professionals in the science of data and new emerging technologies.

BBVA and the University of Navarra have launched an innovative training program aimed at more than 150 senior managers with the goal to improve productivity through Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). This course, created by the Institute of Science of the data and Artificial Intelligence (DATAI) of the University of Navarra in conjunction with BBVA teams, focuses on the use of GenAI to improve productivity in senior executives by optimizing strategic decision making and daily operations.
The program is integrated within the training model of group, Campus BBVA, and introduces the potential of generative AI, explaining its evolution, applications in various economic sectors and how it is redefining processes core topic in various industries. After learning about its influence on business, participants work on specific case studies where ChatGPT becomes an essential tool to increase efficiency in the management of information.
"The course responds to the needs created by the recent integration of AI in enterprises. Through a complete introduction to generative AI, participants explore its real impact on business management and, with the case studies we work on, learn how to apply this technology from the automation of routine tasks to the optimization of complex processes," says Iván Cordón, director of Innovation at DATAI of the University of Navarra.
Alliance to accelerate the incorporation of AI
In the field of generative Artificial Intelligence, more than 300 employees have benefited from this training program offered by the University of Navarra since April of this year.
This learning plan is part of a agreement of partnership that both institutions signed in 2020 to train their professionals and boost research in science from data with other initiatives such as its officialMaster's Degree in Big Data Science or the course focused on Big Data, among others. From these trainings, employees have also been able to obtain the certificate Professional Scientist data, a degree scroll from DATAI that validates the knowledge and skills of professionals in the science industry from data. In addition, since the origin of agreement, other employees have also initiated a doctoral thesis on the application of 'data' to financial challenges or the analysis and mitigation of bias in the bank's automated decision making tools, among other topics from research.
According to Elena Alfaro, manager of GenAI Adoption at BBVA, "with this new training program, we not only seek to improve executive productivity and creativity, but also to strengthen our executives in the adoption of emerging technologies and encourage them to lead change in their respective teams. Knowing the uses of generative AI will help the company to get the most out of this technology now and in the future.
In recent months, BBVA has been taking decisive steps in the use of generative AI in its main markets. On the one hand, by prioritizing projects to be developed with different tools of this new technology. On the other hand, with the signature of a strategic agreement with OpenAI to deploy ChatGPT Enterprise among its professionals.
The bank has trained nearly 5,000 employees (including scientists, specialists and engineers from data) with specialized courses from development internal Data University and, additionally, more than 50,000 professionals from group have participated in some subject of training around the world of data and artificial intelligence.
