A project of the University of Navarra and the National Center for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA) in San Adrián has been distinguished as Best Business project in the first edition of award "Crea EBDT", of the Business and Innovation Center of Navarra (CEIN). The initiative will receive 15,000 euros for the maturation and next start-up of the business.

The research is directed by the Full Professor of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra Juan Manuel Irache and the manager of research and development of CNTA, Carlos González Navarro. It focuses on the elaboration of nanoparticles based on proteins and polysaccharides to "encapsulate" foods (dairy products, juices, pastries, preserves, jams...) and thus enrich them with vitamins, additives and probiotics to make them healthier.

EBDT stands for Empresas de Base Tecnológica (Technology-Based Companies). Its characteristics, according to Carmen Leza, General Manager of CEIN, are a "high growth potential, research and development continuous and an international market vision from its origin". CEIN began working with this subject of companies in 2001. Since then, 24 have been created, generating 300 jobs, 21 of which are still active.
