Néstor Fernández Castro wins the V Final Project Competition Degree Chair Madera

Mercedes Zapico and Mario Peralta received the second prizes of this competition from the University and the Chair Madera.

Néstor Fernández Castro (Hospital de Órbigo, León) has won the V Final Project Competition degree program Chair Madera. The international competition , promoted by the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra and the Chair Madera, has counted in this edition with the participation of 55 architects from Spain, Chile, Algeria, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru.

The jury highlighted the project of this graduate of the Camilo José Cela University, graduate 'Museo del Inmigrante de Valparaiso', "the balance between urban performance and rehabilitation". It also stressed that "a logical constructive development is appreciated".

In addition, two runner-up prizes were awarded to the works "Actitud Slow", by Mercedes Zapico Suárez (Universidad San Pablo CEU Madrid), and 'Arquitectura en la extensión: Complejo Fronterizo Coyhaique Alto', by Mario Peralta Peralta(Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile).

This activity has as goal to award the project Fin de Degree (PFG) that best highlights the use of wood and sustainability aspects. The award consists of a scholarship that covers the cost of the enrollment in the Master's Degree in design and management Environmental Buildings (MDGAE) taught at the University of Navarra.

The jury, composed of José Manuel Cabrero, director of the Chair Madera; Marta García Alonso, professor at School of Architecture of the University of Navarra and founding partner of DG Arquitectura Habitable; and architect Manuel Enríquez, partner of Barcos y Enríquez Arquitectos, took into account the following criteria: the use of wood as the main structural material; the creative and innovative use of wood in the design; the appropriate response to basic functional and architectural criteria; architectural coherence; and sustainability and environmental criteria.

The Master's Degree in design and management Environmental Buildings aims to train experts in the field of environmental design , sustainability quantification and new technologies. It is distinguished for being an international Master's Degree , for its employability and its relationship with research.
