The Deputy Director of the CRYF of the University of Navarra participates in a roundtable at the University of La Laguna.
Santiago Collado, Deputy Director of group of research 'Science, Reason and Faith' of the University of Navarra, participated in the roundtable 'Reality, truth and free will. What can we humanly say', which was held at the Ateneo of the University of La Laguna.
The activity was organized by the Chair Pedro García Cabrera of the University of La Laguna, directed by Professor Rafael Alonso Solís, with the partnership of the Pedro García Cabrera Foundation. It will be moderated by the astrophysicist Antonio Aparicio Juan.
Together with Santiago Collado, Martín López Corredoira, researcher , head of high school de Astrofísica de Canarias; and Inmaculada Perdomo Reyes, professor at Philosophy of the University of La Laguna, also participated.
After addressing the concepts of reality and truth, the core of discussion focused on whether man is nature or not. The most opposing positions were embodied by the scientific-naturalist of Martín López, who considered that man is entirely nature, being the most complex and evolved species; while the thesis of Santiago Collado connected with the Philosophy of dualist tradition, where the concepts of soul and God have a place, spaces therefore outside the strictly natural and animal.
The discussion of the Chair Cultural Pedro García Cabrera of the University of La Laguna lasted two hours and average. It was attended by Philosophy and science students, biology professors, feminist researchers, neurologists and theologians, among others.
