The 3rd year medical students of the University of Navarra have begun an intensive year in which they will be trained in different medical specialties in the Pamplona and Madrid campuses (depending on their preference), as well as in several centers of the Navarra Health System. This is a unique rotation in Spain in which the students will have to apply the knowledge they have acquired during the first two courses at School.

"Two years ago we launched a new Study program, the Integrated Curriculum, which represents a substantial change in the way of organizing and teaching teaching for the benefit of contextualized and related learning," explains Dr. Marta Ferrer, dean of the School of Medicine. One of the main new features of this system, which already has theInternational Seal of Quality of the World Federation for Medical Education. (WFME), is the third course, dedicated entirely to the six main specialties that the WFME itself considers essential for a doctor's training : Primary Care, Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Pediatrics and Surgery. 

"These rotations are mandatory, so from September to June, all of our third-year students will begin to apply the knowledge and skills learned throughout the first two years in the hospital," Dr. Ferrer explains. "In addition, throughout the year, students will also receive academic training focused on 72 major syndromes to complement their training internship . They will also participate in a journal club, where they will be introduced to the analysis of scientific articles. Thus, this 360º experience will serve as a foundation for their learning in higher grades."

For this purpose, the teaching will be managed by the Clínica Universidad de Navarra specialists at the two sites, most of them with extensive classroom experience, who will work together to offer an identical and coordinated proposal professor . The School has also designed a system of assessment of skills and competencies that students will have to acquire and work on in each of the rotations.

A milestone in the history of School

"For us, the year 2022 will mark a new milestone in the history of the University and, in particular, for School. After the arrival in Madrid of the Clinic and the Campus of postgraduate program, this year, and for the first time, a School disembarks in the capital offering its students the possibility of studying there part of its programs of study of Degree. In addition, this completes the integration of the attendance, the teaching and the research at the Madrid campus,'' the dean confesses. 

"In this context, the professors are a reference letter professor , research and clinical at the service of the students' medical training . The initial subjects already have a clinical perspective, so that students are always aware of the usefulness and application of the knowledge they are studying. All this, in a unique academic environment in which teaching, attendance health and research go hand in hand from day one," he concludes. 

New space professor at the Madrid headquarters

During the last few months, the School of Medicine has carried out works in Madrid to provide the headquarters of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra with a space professor destined for the training of the students of Degree. The area has a surface area of 471 m² and consists of two classrooms for teaching, a classroom study room, a multi-purpose space, offices for counseling and an area for administrative office.
