"In Navarra, around 80,000 people over the age of 18 are overweight and, therefore, at high risk of developing diabetes subject 2". Alfredo Martínez, Full Professor in Nutrition at the University of Navarra, provided these figures during the presentation of the activity on healthy eating habits"Control your overweight to prevent diabetes", organized by the academic center and the Santo Domingo Market in Pamplona. The presentation event was also attended by the Market's General Manager , Susana Frommknecht.
According to Martínez, the issue of diabetics subject 2 over 75 years of age is around 10,000 in the Comunidad Foral". He also offered the data of Spain, where 33% of the population could be overweight and 41% of those over 75 years of age suffer from diabetes subject 2."This data is worrying if we take into account that in 1996 the issue of diabetic people stood at 2,200,000, and by 2026 this figure could increase by more than one million", he stressed.
Its recommendations, as far as diabetes subject 2 is concerned, are mainly oriented towards physical activity and the consumption of foods moderately high in protein (meat, fish, eggs, legumes and, in some cases, nuts).
