Samuel López Checchini, a student at high school in Pamplona, has won the regional round of the Biology Olympiad. The test, held at the School of Science at the University of Navarra, 90 students from 18 schools participated. Second place result to Nahia Aranda, from high school Monjardínhigh school , and third place went to Alejandra Lorente, a student at IES Ribera del Arga (Peralta).

Students Naiara Valencia, Raúl Carrasco, Esther Ciordia, Itsaso Salinas, Judith Callejo, Julen Casulleras, Leyre Sánchez, Iratxe Sola and Amaia Zudaire also received special mentions.

The top three finishers will participate, from March 26-29, in the national phase of the Biology Olympiad, to be held at the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao. Likewise, the students who obtain the three best positions in the national test will opt for the international test , which this year will take place in Nagasaki (Japan), from July 3 to 11. The 4th, 5th and 6th place winners in the national phase will be able to compete in the Iberoamerican Biology Olympiad, to be held from September 6 to 12 in San José (Costa Rica).
