"If for a week the Internet is eliminated throughout Spain, so that no one can connect, absolutely nothing happens. And yet, if you do the same with telephone lines, the country comes to a complete standstill and collapses. Ten years from now, it will seem ridiculous to think that nothing happens if we are left without Internet for a week". These are the words of Wenceslao Casares, founder of the online bank Patagon, who gave a speech at lecture organized by School of Economics at the University of Navarra in which he analyzed the "Present and future of the Internet". "This is the best time to be optimistic about network and work with Internet projects," he said.

In reference letter to the security of banks on the Internet, he pointed out that "I have yet to meet a single person who has had a financial problem on the Internet. In fact, there is a much greater chance that a branch of any bank will be robbed, and that does not worry anyone because, if it happens, the problem lies with the institution, not the customer. And the same applies to the Internet.

Wenceslao Casares explained, at purpose about the future of the Internet, that we should not only look at the "photograph" of what is happening now, but try to understand the "movie" of evolution, i.e., what has happened so far and what will happen in the future. "We generally overestimate the possibilities of technology two years from now, and underestimate what will happen in ten years," he said.

"Technology succeeds when it becomes invisible."

Patagon's founder argued that "watching the film is not the responsibility of the general public, but of the providers. Technology succeeds when it becomes invisible". In this sense, he pointed out that "many people use mobile on a regular basis without stopping to think about how it works from a technological point of view".

In the same vein, he went on to say that "however, if I want information on the movies being shown today in Pamplona's cinemas, I have to have access to network, I have to know where to look, wait for the page to load and know how to navigate through it. In a few years, all this information will be available instantly, for example, on mobile". And he concluded that "it is technology that has to adapt to people, and if it happens the other way around, it means that technology has failed".
