Treasures of the Viceroyalty: an exhibition on Peru curated by Pilar Latasa, professor at the School of Philosophy and Letters.

It will be on display until next June.

The Main Library has inaugurated the exhibition "Vale un Perú". Texts and Images of the Viceroyaltya documentary journey through the origins, political construction and symbolic representation of the Viceroyalty of Peru within the Hispanic Monarchy.

The exhibition 's degree scroll alludes to the expression "worth a Peru", synonymous with extraordinary wealth since the end of the 16th century, linked to the finding of precious metals in the mines of Potosí and the conquest of the Andean territory by the Castilians. Through a careful selection of works from the Library's Archive collection, the sample allows us to understand the historical, political and symbolic value that the viceroyalty acquired as a strategic part of the imperial framework.

Among the exhibits are chronicles of the conquest, treatises on geography and cosmography, trilingual catechisms, legal manuals, naturalist descriptions, illustrated editions and emblematic texts such as the Royal Commentaries of the Inca Garcilaso or the Christian Doctrine of the Third Council of Lima. These works allow the visitor to delve into the processes of appropriation, interpretation and administration of the territory, and the forms of representation of the Andean world from the European and Creole perspective.

The exhibition is on view through June in the entrance hall of the Main Library. Main Library. A virtual exhibition is also available at the following link.
