La School of Architecture joins in the celebration of Working Women's Day

A roundtable featuring five women architects inaugurated the Women For Architecture and Design program.

Five professionals have participated in a roundtable on women architects and designers, organized by the University of Navarra, on the occasion of the International Working Women's Day. School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, on the occasion of International Working Women's Day.  

Marta Echevarren, director of the Heritage Service of department of the Treasury and Financial Policy, mentioned that "in the Administration field there are no big differences" and pointed out that "women think much more about conciliation". Maite Apezteguía, architect-urban planner, founder of Apezteguía Architects, highlighted the elimination of timetables as a measure of conciliation: "In my studio there is no fixed schedule . It has never existed because it is not necessary, and things have always worked out".

For her part, Guillermina Cavero, an architect with a professional activity at work Social, highlighted the value of women in the social sphere and mentioned her work at Tantaka Arquitectura, emphasizing the transforming power of architecture, not only in the work itself but also in how it influences people's lives.

Likewise, Judith Zubillaga, director of Construcciones Zubillaga, emphasized that the biggest difference between men and women is in the sensitivity with which things are done. The colloquium was moderated by Inmaculada Jiménez, architect-urbanist, founder of Jiménez Garde Estudio de Arquitectura and professor at the School.

80% know the name of an architect and only 43.5% know the name of a female architect.

The activity is part of the recently inaugurated program Women for Architecture and Design (WFAD) PROGRAM. In addition to the roundtable, last Friday, March 3, there was a lecture by architect Fuensanta Nieto, who pointed out the importance of looking at women beyond our borders: "We are in the best moment that women have had in Europe, but we should also think about all the others".  

In addition, during the weekend, surveys have been carried out in Pamplona to test the Degree of knowledge of the population about women architects. The most significant data was that 80% of those surveyed knew the name of an architect; however, only 43.5% were able to name a female architect and, of those who did, 70% recognized that it was someone close to them.

Finally, on Friday, March 12 at 12:30 pm, there will be an Openclass by Italian designer Marta Bernstein, degree scroll "Wayfinding: when typography meets architecture".

Women for Architecture and Design is born under the umbrella of the program Women for Science and Technology program, which was presented on February 10 at School de Ciencias with the aim of supporting female students who wish to pursue careers in science, as well as to promote the presence of women in science.
