Pharmacy commits to European Antibiotic Prudent Use Day
The School participates in the Science Week with workshops, information stands, the informative lecture "Superbugs" and a roundtable at the classroom de Salud in the CIMA

Carlos Gamazo and Gabriel Reina, professors at School of Pharmacy and Nutrition, have promoted a series of activities on the occasion of the European Day for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics, which will be celebrated on November 18. This activity is part of the National Antibiotic Resistance Plan (PRAN), coordinated by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS).
As part of the Science and Technology Week, which takes place at campus from November 7 to 14, teachers and researchers of the department of Microbiology have participated in the experiments that took place at place del Castillo on November 7 and in the workshops with students from high school diplomawhich take place daily at Hexagon Building between 11:15 am and 12:30 pm.
Also, on Wednesday 9th, Professor David Gonzalez will give the lecture "The threat of super bacteria", where, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, he will explain why antibiotics have saved millions of lives and how bacterial resistance is jeopardizing this progress due to the growing resistance to these drugs.
On November 17, at partnership with the research center Médica Aplicada (CIMA), the School will participate in the classroom de Salud that is elaborated together with Diario de Navarra and that on this occasion will deal with antibiotic resistance. The lecture -open to the general public, teachers and students-, will take place in the auditorium of the CIMA at 19 h. and will be attended by David González, researcher of the department of Microbiology; José Ramón Yuste, specialist of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra Eduardo González, from CINFA Laboratories; and Arantza Viamonte, from high school of Pharmacists of Navarra, all moderated by the Professor of Pharmacy Gabriel Reina.
Information booths at Ciencias y AmigosFinally, and coinciding with the European anniversary -on Friday, November 18-, information stands will be set up in the Science and Friends buildings. There, volunteer students will inform all interested people on how to use antibiotics correctly, will answer their questions and will prepare a small survey that will form part of the work end of Degree of a student of the School. For this dissemination, informative material provided by the AEMPS, CINFA and committee General de Colegios Farmacéuticos will be distributed.
In the development of all these activities,ten volunteer students from 4th and 5th year of Pharmacy will participate, as well as four doctoral students from department of Microbiology.
