Gabriel Insausti, winner of the V José Bergamín International Aphorisms award

The poet and professor at the University of Navarra has been awarded the award for his work Tirar la piedra (Throwing the Stone).

Published under the pseudonym Daniel Noguera, it beat a total of 40 texts, submitted from different Spanish provinces and also from countries such as Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Germany.

The award, the only one in Spain dedicated to books on aphorisms -brief sentences that are presented as rules-, is organized by the publishing house Cuadernos del Vigía. The jury, formed by writers Álvaro Salvador, Juan Varo Zafra and Miguel Ángel Arcas, highlighted that the winning work is full of wit and enormous social acuity. "An intense book, of great critical depth, fruit of an ironic look not exempt of melancholy", they point out.

About the author

Professor Insausti is a writer, poet, translator and professor of Literature at the University of Navarra, where he is also part of the academic staff of the Degree in Literature and Creative Writing of the School of Philosophy and Letters, teaching teaching bilingual.

He is the author of books on philology research and texts on cinema, although his most important production is poetry. He has been coordinator of the critical edition of the poetic work of Jorge Oteiza, edited in 2006 by the Foundation of the same name. His latest degree scroll, Línea de nieve, saw the light in 2016.

In addition to this last recognition, Gabriel Insausti has won several literary awards, among which are the award of poetry "Arcipreste de Hita" 2000 for Últimos días en Sabinia, which also won third place in the National Poetry award 2002, or the award of Poetry Manuel Alcántara, among others.
