Six medical students, awarded in the VI International Oncology Student Awards at the University of Navarra congress

The conference brought together 300 students, who presented 12 oral communications and 10 posters.

Six students from the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra have been awarded at the VI International Student Oncology congress for their oral communications and posters. The competition was attended by more than 300 university students from the academic center and from the universities of Seville, Complutense de Madrid, Basque Country, León, Zaragoza, Valencia, Extremadura and Lisbon.

A total of ten posters and 12 oral communications were presented by the students. In the first modality the winning poster was graduate "Sentinel node detection with Sentinelle gammacamera and intraoperative study using the Osna method in breast cancer surgery", prepared by Isabel Gónzalez-Villalobos, Marta Navarro and María Otero. Its content was intended to explain this new technique for the early diagnosis of breast tumors.

In the modality of oral communications there were two awards. The first one, awarded by the committee Organizer of the congress, was for Antonio José Rullán, student of Medicine and researcher of the CIMAfor his communication "Reversing epigenetic silencing of BIM improves response to chemotherapy in Burkitt's lymphoma". The second award, awarded by the committee Scientific, went to work by Igor Gómez and Imanol Gabarin, who spoke on "Alteration of circadian rhythm and cancer risk".

The meeting, organized entirely by students, is now in its sixth year. During this time, more than 1,500 students and 80 specialists from four continents have participated. Finally, some one hundred papers and posters prepared by students have been presented.
