Jesús Larralde, Full Professor of the University, passed away.

Born in 1920 in Paseo de Sarasate, the professor was Associate Dean and Dean of the School Pharmacy for more than twenty years.

Professor Jesús Larralde Berrio, Full Professor of the University, passed away today in Pamplona. Born on November 29, 1920 in Paseo de Sarasate in the capital of Navarra, the professor of Animal Physiology was Associate Dean and Dean of the School of Pharmacy for twenty years.

Jesús Larralde studied high school diploma at high school of the Jesuits in Tudela. Between 1940 and 1943 he studied Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy at the University of Madrid. At the same center, in 1947, he obtained the degree scroll of Doctor of Pharmacy for his work "Experimental traumatic shock", combining his years of doctoral thesis with his work as professor teaching assistant of Chemistry Experimental, in the School of Sciences of the Madrid center.

In 1947 he moved to the University of Barcelona where he worked at the School of Pharmacy until 1951. In that year he obtained the Chair in Animal Physiology and developed his work professor and researcher at the University of Santiago de Compostela between 1951 and 1965.

He then joined the School of Pharmacy at the University of Navarra, where he remained until his retirement as professor of Animal Physiology (1965-1989), History of Pharmacy (1976-1979) and Nutrition and Dietetics (1976-1992).

At the School of Pharmacy he was Associate Dean (1966-1967) y Dean (1967-1986), director of the department of Animal Physiology (1967-1986) and director of the doctoral program Physiology and Nutrition ( 1985-1992).

Among other positions, he was a founding member of the Spanish Society of Physiological Sciences (Madrid 1952), the Spanish Society of Nutrition and the European Intestinal Transport Group (1977). He was also a member of the Spanish Society of Bromatology (1977), the Latin American Society of Nutrition (Caracas, 1978), the European Society for Comparative Physiology and Biochemistry (1979) and the Nutrition Society (London, 1983).

He was also a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Barcelona since 1956; and member of issue of the same institution since 1966 and of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Madrid since September 1992.

Director of 49 thesis doctoral and 51 thesis de licentiate degree

Jesús Larralde directed 49 doctoral thesis and 51 thesis of licentiate degree, and has published more than 260 papers of research in national and foreign journals. He also collaborated in some fifteen research projects and worked in research centers in several countries. Some twenty of his students obtained place of Full Professor or tenured, encouraged by his eagerness professor and researcher.

For 24 years (1985-2009) he was a member of the committee President of the association of the Industry of Navarra (AIN), representing the University and participated in numerous business and cultural initiatives in Pamplona.

The President of the University of Navarra, Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero, has highlighted among the personality traits of Professor Larralde his generosity in training others. "And above all he was a true teacher, who knew how to imprint unforgettable lessons in the minds and hearts of his disciples. I would go so far as to say that he leaves us a legacy of a sober, demanding, kind and positive style. There are many reasons for us to feel deeply grateful".
