On the occasion of Madrid 2011, 23 students and 8 professionals from the University of Navarra will broadcast Madrid 11-WYD Radio, the official radio station of the World Youth Day workshop . This project has a triple goal: to cover the event, help pilgrims coming to the capital and provide students with an opportunity to training. Radio Maria has supported the pioneering plan and has ceded a frequency to Madrid 11-JMJ Radio, where all the people working are volunteers.

During the course of this project, the young people have the financial aid of professors from 98.3 Radio, a radio station of the University of Navarra, such as Ignacio de Lorenzo, Eva Lus, Iñaki Llarena and Vanessa Miguelañez. On the other hand, they have received theoretical lessons from experts in different topics (protocol, Benedict XVI, similar professional experiences, communication of faith). They also have the support of other volunteers in Madrid, the Boy Scouts Europe and several students from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (Rome).

Estefanía Lamas, an Audiovisual Communication student and volunteer, explains that her participation in Madrid 11-JMJ Radio allows her to collaborate in the workshop World Youth Day in search of the union of all young people. "It is also an opportunity to strengthen my faith and work in something I like," she says.

Information and service is combined with content related to WYD.

The programming of Madrid 11-WYD Radio will consist of different micro-spaces that are divided into two groups: information and services and content connected to WYD. The goal of the first group is to provide documentation to help pilgrims during their stay in the capital (cultural programs, transportation services, health...). The second aims to bring occasional student closer to the figure of the Pope, the foundations of the Church, the importance of the sacraments, etc.

In addition, Madrid 11-WYD Radio will cover all the events during the days of the celebration of the great World Youth quotation .

"It is a good way to help the pilgrim and make things easier once he is in Madrid during the days of the event," explains Alberto Bonilla, Journalism student and volunteer, who is in charge of some of the information and service micro-spaces.
