The students from high school diploma The students from Spain come from high school Teresianas de Pamplona, which in turn chose teacher-researchers from Degree of Human Nutrition and Dietetics at School of Pharmacy as collaborators. Four other European schools offer their best 2nd year students the opportunity to work with students from other European schools. high school diploma the possibility of working with students from other countries in real research projects in prestigious companies and institutions in the participating countries.
The high school Teresianas requested the partnership of the School of Pharmacy, which offered the possibility to participate in the project 'Cellular and molecular effects of omega-3 eicosapentaenoic fatty acid (EPA) in adipose tissue: potential application in human obesity', directed by Dr. Mª Jesús Moreno, professor and researcher of Nutrition.
The project started in July with the presentation of the project and the submission of bibliography. This first phase was online and allowed a first contact between the students and the tutors of the projects.
The second and most interesting part of project started in mid-October. For two weeks, several 2nd year students from high school diploma from Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain, stayed at the University and participated in project on Omega 3. Dr. Pedro Prieto, tutor of this project, worked with the students at laboratory, where they made changes in the medium of 3T3-L1 cells, learned techniques for determining protein secretion and phosphorylation, and saw how RT-PCR is done , to see the gene expression of a gene.
The experience has been a success, both for the students and for the participating schools, companies and institutions. The idea is to open this project to more schools in more countries and to have projects as interesting as those of this year.
