The project PRISMAproject, in which the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra participates, starts its development with the goal of strengthening short-circuit forestry value chains and fostering a sustainable circular bioeconomy in mountain territories. Through an adaptive multifunctional forest management , the initiative seeks to optimize the use of natural resources, contribute to climate change mitigation and generate new opportunities for the economic development of rural areas.
The Chair Madera Onesta of the University of Navarra collaborates mainly in the valorization of local wood species through the development of innovative technological products applied to construction. PRISMA will propose new business and entrepreneurship opportunities for the local forest chain. Among the actions, the technical feasibility of manufacturing CLT cross-laminated timber panels with local species and their mechanical performance will be analyzed. In addition, the new Fustabloc technology will be developed, a construction system based on blocks manufactured with waste from local sawmills, offering an efficient and sustainable solution for simple and low-cost buildings. A quality carpentry rule adapted to the particularities of local wood will also be developed.
PRISMA is also committed to the training of professionals in the forestry sector, as well as to training promotion of green entrepreneurship, favoring the development of innovative solutions to boost local Economics . To this end, research and developmentresearch, development and innovation) actions will be carried out to generate new knowledge, develop advanced technologies and apply innovative solutions in forestry management and the use of natural resources.
The project is coordinated by the Mancomunitat de Municipis Berguedans per a la Biomassa(MMBB) and counts with the participation of the Centre de Ciència i Tecnologia Forestal de Catalunya(CTFC), Baskegur, Foresna Zurgaia and the University of Navarra. PRISMA is supported by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic challenge within the framework of the Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience, financed by the European Union - Next Generation EU.
