The School of Sciences of the University of Navarra hosts on June 10 and 11 the 'IV meeting of the thematic network Genomics of Mycroorganisms Pathogens of Man (Patogem)', with the partnership of the Ministry of Science and Innovation. The coordinator of this edition is Professor Ignacio López-Goñi, from department of Microbiology and Parasitology.

The general goal of the network is to continue with the partnership in research genomics and post-genomics in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of human diseases caused by bacteria and fungi. During the meeting different aspects of the virulence of important human pathogens such as Mycobacterium, Staphylococcus, Brucella, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, Listeria or Candida will be analyzed.

The proposed activities are grouped into the following points:

- Establish guidelines for future calls for grants from research at national and international level to promote post-genomic research in microbial pathogens.

- Promote the exchange of information: standardization of experimental methodology in functional post-genomics activities.

- Increase the number of young researchers exchange and training, among the members of the network and continue to promote joint projects and works.

- To promote, favor and increase the relationship of the members of the network with other participants in the cynical field.

- Promote the interconnection with other networks with common interests, such as the Bacterial Genomics Network, existing in our country.

- To disseminate in the business world the importance of in silico and functional genomics for the development of new strategies for the production of antimicrobial compounds and the approach of new strategies to combat pathogenic microorganisms.

In this meeting 55 researchers from 25 different centers are participating.
