The Government of Israel grants a scholarship to the Navarrese doctoral student of the School of Architecture from the University of Navarra Amaia Zuazua-Ros, who during the next eight months will continue her project of research at Ben Gurion University, in one of the campus that this academic center has in the Negev desert.

In the development of his thesis , which analyzes a hybrid cooling system, Amaia Zuazua-Ros has combined various disciplines such as biology, engineering and architecture. In this way, she studies how cooling systems in buildings can be improved with the employment of an element inspired by elephant ears, a solution with important applications in the agri-food industry.

The project began by trying to transfer the energy strategies of the animal world to buildings," explains the PhD student. In this case, while most mammals extract body heat through sweat, elephants, for example, extract heat through their ears in a dry way".

"At Ben Gurion University they have developed projects along the same lines, so it is interesting to be able to work with them," says Amaia Zuazua-Ros, who has traveled to Beer Sheva, just over a hundred kilometers from Tel Aviv.

In September, the doctoral student presented the study at the International Conference on Sustainability in Energy and Buildings in Turin, where the poster she presented on her doctoral thesis received an award. This work is directed by School of Architecture professor CésarMartín-Gómez and co-directed by Tecnun professors Juan Carlos Ramos and Tomás Gómez-Acebo.
